NAV became Business Central

The way from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Microsoft develops their business software based on years of experience.

With Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft offers the advantages of a cloud-based business solution, but without compromising the comfortable functionality of Dynamics NAV. The roadmap below shows the progress of the last years up to the current version.

Until fall 2018, both an on-premises and a cloud solution were available under different names. In autumn 2018 the name Microsoft Dynamics NAV was adopted. Since then, both the on-premises and the cloud variants have been available under the name Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. A hybrid deployment, i.e. a simultaneous deployment on-premises and in the cloud, is also possible. In addition, Business Central is offered with a modified licensing model.

There have also been some changes in the background, as the development environment has been adapted as well. With VisualStudioCode, customer-specific adaptations, the so-called "private extensions", are now easier to implement. Customer-independent functional extensions like the Extensions or also called Add-Ons can be added or removed from the standard solution, which consequently also simplifies the upgrade and update process of your business solution.
Starting with the Business Central 15 version (released in 2020), there are web and mobile clients available. C/AL will be replaced by a new development environment based on VS Code and AL.

You want to keep up with the digital age? Because information has never been as important as it is today. Then Business Central is the right ERP solution for your company.
